So the big question was … WHY Choir?

In the evening, van and i made a super sudden decision to check out the st margs choir together with kaiwen and daniel. And i cant believe that the conductress used to conduct the jvs choir when i was there!! I think i was reminded that choir days was really fun when many voices came together. And it hit me really hard that the main difference btw a choir and a band is LYRICS!

When we watch a band, we see different instruments coming together to make music of varying emotions and we are swayed be the way the mood is fed through the clashing of cymbals and the drastic volume changes. However the meaning of the song might not be as openly available as when lyrics are present.

Great sound and some groovy beats…

22 Then Elijah said to them, “I am the only one of the LORD’s prophets left, but Baal has four hundred and fifty prophets. 23 Get two bulls for us. Let them choose one for themselves, and let them cut it into pieces and put it on the wood but not set fire to it. I will prepare the other bull and put it on the wood but not set fire to it. 24 Then you call on the name of your god, and I will call on the name of the LORD. The god who answers by fire—he is God.”
      Then all the people said, “What you say is good.”

 25 Elijah said to the prophets of Baal, “Choose one of the bulls and prepare it first, since there are so many of you. Call on the name of your god, but do not light the fire.” 26 So they took the bull given them and prepared it.
      Then they called on the name of Baal from morning till noon. “O Baal, answer us!” they shouted. But there was no response; no one answered. And they danced around the altar they had made.

 27 At noon Elijah began to taunt them. “Shout louder!” he said. “Surely he is a god! Perhaps he is deep in thought, or busy, or traveling. Maybe he is sleeping and must be awakened.” 28 So they shouted louder and slashed themselves with swords and spears, as was their custom, until their blood flowed. 29 Midday passed, and they continued their frantic prophesying until the time for the evening sacrifice. But there was no response, no one answered, no one paid attention.

 30 Then Elijah said to all the people, “Come here to me.” They came to him, and he repaired the altar of the LORD, which was in ruins. 31 Elijah took twelve stones, one for each of the tribes descended from Jacob, to whom the word of the LORD had come, saying, “Your name shall be Israel.” 32 With the stones he built an altar in the name of the LORD, and he dug a trench around it large enough to hold two seahs ^[a] of seed. 33 He arranged the wood, cut the bull into pieces and laid it on the wood. Then he said to them, “Fill four large jars with water and pour it on the offering and on the wood.”

 34 “Do it again,” he said, and they did it again.
      ”Do it a third time,” he ordered, and they did it the third time. 35 The water ran down around the altar and even filled the trench.

 36 At the time of sacrifice, the prophet Elijah stepped forward and prayed: “O LORD, God of Abraham, Isaac and Israel, let it be known today that you are God in Israel and that I am your servant and have done all these things at your command. 37 Answer me, O LORD, answer me, so these people will know that you, O LORD, are God, and that you are turning their hearts back again.”

 38 Then the fire of the LORD fell and burned up the sacrifice, the wood, the stones and the soil, and also licked up the water in the trench.

 39 When all the people saw this, they fell prostrate and cried, “The LORD -he is God! The LORD -he is God!”

I love Billy Joel’s playing man. Though alot of ppl know me as a person who is like a metal freak and all, but i guess sometimes you step back to look at the beauty of other genres…

At the 5min part can someone tell me what he is playing?

Daniel: keyboard is the most impt instrument. better than drums. can even play drums on keys. DRUMS SUCKS!

This post is written mainly to eliminate the question which is the important instrument in a worship band context. At the same time to smack daniel for posting the post above on alena’s blog.

Importance of an instrument in a worship setting is practically non existent at all since the dawn of times. As musicians, we might claim that our instruments cannot be left out during a song as it can set the mood of the song and change the lives of people. But we forget that true worship comes from deeper within. The heart.

Isaiah 29:13 (New International Version)
 13 The Lord says:
       “These people come near to me with their mouth
       and honor me with their lips,
       but their hearts are far from me.
       Their worship of me
       is made up only of rules taught by men.

No instrument is more important than the other, we are usually caught up so much with this question that the most important part of worship is forgotten, the Heart of worship.

The sound the keyboard produces like shit lahz… no emotions no nothing… will never replace a real drummer… btw you are more a bassist den a keyboardist loh!!!

Anyway, really wanna thank Alena, Terence and Corrine for working on the musical parts with me. It was not only enjoyable making music for God with them today but I did have fun practicing the two days before. God really brought us through didnt he?

 Anyway also thanking kaiwen and daniel who helped out in the powerpoint and sound respectively. Great job guys!!!

 One more group would be the people who came early to help me set up the place, priscilla and christabel….. and definitely stupid little vanessa who refused to let me sweep the floor and helped me mop up the place so that the YF can lay their precious bottoms on the floor.

 Last but not least, the most important one i want to thank is actually God. He was the main focus, the main actor, the reason we live, the reason we worship and sing. Without His blessings, i guess we would have been screwed quite badly… It has been an awesome time leading worship… possibly my last for a very very very very long time
